When working with newborns we focus on maximizing sleep without using ANY behavioural approaches (NO sleep training). Instead we focus on SLEEP FOUNDATIONS & sleep shaping. These are all the factors that promote sleep: sleep environment, sleep attire, sleep science, feeding/breastfeeding, sleep tools, and the emotional well-being of mom/baby/family unit etc. At this age, we focus on realistic goals & expectations. Our approach is holistic and very respectful of where such a young infant is at in terms of neurological sleep organization, night feeds and needing assistance to fall asleep and stay asleep.
When working with this age range, we first focus on SLEEP FOUNDATIONS before starting any formal sleep work. Sleep foundations are all the factors that promote sleep. This means that we get all set up for success before starting any sleep training. We will choose from a variety of supportive methodologies to help your baby/toddler learn to fall asleep and fall back to sleep unassisted. We do NOT need to choose extinction/CIO. There are many routes to the same goal. Together we will create a sleep plan that is realistic and within your comfort level.
When working with this age group, we look closely at emotional well-being of your child, positive parenting strategies, sleep environment, connection time with parents, family dynamics, nutrition, screen time, and outside factors (school, childcare, etc.) We will use a supportive behavioural approach in conjunction with making sure your child’s love and security tank is filled to the brim! Remember, how a child feels emotionally, greatly impacts how well they sleep. We will address night time fears, worries, anxieties and so much more.

Maxine is truly a miracle worker. My 5-month-old wouldn't sleep more than 45 minutes day or night. I thought I was going crazy. Now my boy goes to sleep awake at night with minimal fuss and settles himself if he wakes. He takes lovely long naps, and Maxine has left me with a plan for the next two months to make the next nap transition easy. I struggled with listening to him cry, especially in the middle of the night, and Maxine tweaked everything possible to minimize crying. She was warm, supportive, knowledgeable, and flexible! We attempted sleep training with room sharing, house guests, and all sorts of other distractions, and she still figured out how to make it work. Thank you Maxine for giving us evenings again and taking all the stress out of naps and nighttime. It's a different world over here!Kate Webb
This is a note I wrote to Maxine after working with her -- she is a miracle worker!!! A little note to thank you so much for helping me teach my little one how to sleep. You were an absolute pleasure to work with, I so appreciate your time, care, positivity, encouragement and patience. It was a long process and you gave me a lot of time to get it “right” — thank you! You were supportive and caring, yet at the same also pushed me to see what he could do. I’ll never forget that right at the beginning you told me he should be able to stay up past 8:45am, and I didn’t quite believe you, you told me to go for a walk and we did and he made it and still napped. The night we started sleep training I was nervous and you were so encouraging. He hardly cried throughout the process, and I truly believe that it is due to you teaching me the “sleep science”. It is so evident that you are passionate about what you do, and really know your field; you are an expert who not only knows her stuff but is able to teach others to become knowledgeable too. I really want to thank you SO much. Yesterday afternoon he had a monster long nap — over 2 hours. I was so excited and of course wanted to text you immediately. As I was weighing up waking him or not, I could hear your voice in my head telling me what my options were. All day today I hear you too, telling me to push him a little more, keep him awake, not to go to him before 6:30am - I hear your reminders, your cheers and encouragement. Maxine really is the BEST, can't recommend her enough!Heidi Friedman
Maxine was lovely to work with. She helped me with sleep training and nap training my 6 month old. In the 3 weeks that we worked together, my daughter went from being up multiple times a night and having disorganized short day time naps, to sleeping 12 hr nights (with 2 dream feeds) and 3 regular naps during the day. She understood my needs and educated me on sleep science. Thank you so much for getting me my nights back and getting Hannah to learn how to self soothe and enjoy her sleepBailey Grad
